    In his first year out of law school, Jon McLaughlin, 28-year-old associate in a six-lawyer firm, has carved out a niche for himself representing gay and lesbian clients in discrimination case.

    Married with a daughter, McLaughlin stumbled into the niche after assiting a gay friend who was having trouble obtaining medical leave from work to finalize an adoption.
